Are Flies Attracted To Evil And Demons?

Many people claim that flies are attracted to evil. You see this reference continuously throughout horror movies, specifically during exorcisms with symbolisms associating these insects with possession and demons.

In general, the house fly is attracted to bad odors and usually carries disease with it wherever it goes. Demons are often associated with filth, disease, and rot. If people believe that flies are attracted to filth, then you can see where the connection comes from.

However, you can’t deny that there is a spirit connection between the association with evil and the century-old reference. Let’s dive a bit deeper into why flies would be attracted to demons and evil in general.

What is the connection between flies and demonic possession in horror movies?

If you follow politics, there have been countless figures on the news that have been filmed with flies walking all over their faces – some images even coming from the White House and during the Presidential Debate airings. Are these fruit flies just aimlessly landing on people during inopportune times? Or did we just witness something we weren’t supposed to during a White House briefing?

But that could all just be a coincidence, right? To understand where folklore comes from, let’s first break down some famous imagery that comes from cinema. Flies are a common theme in horror films. They often show up at scenes of demonic possession or imminent death.

One of the devil’s many tricks is the ability to control flies and vermin. So, it isn’t unusual to watch a priest being attacked by a swarm of flies as a first line of defense. Take a look at The Amityville Horror where the flies attach Father Delaney.

Other movies denote victims of possession or demon attacks that are surrounded by the common housefly. Usually, this insect acts as a warning sign that they have been marked. Here is a clip from Drag Me To Hell.

You will also find similar scenes in classic horror films like The Exorcist or Rosemary’s Baby.

Are flies attracted to the evil inside humans?

There is a long list of rotten smells in the bible often associated with evil people or demons. They include garbage, rotting flesh, dead animals, putrefaction, carcass, and sulfur. There is an analogy to be drawn between flies and demons since flies are attracted to “evil smells” just like demons are attracted to evil people.

You also have to imagine that a demon would have a foul smell, similar to rotting flesh or sulfur – since they are unclean.

Are flies a sign of demonic activity?

If a fly lands on your head and stays there, is it considered the mark of the devil – his seal to show your obedience and service to him? Is it nature’s way of showing others to stay away from you and that you are unclean and have a negative spirit?

Some supernatural enthusiasts unanimously agree. If you live in the South or in Asia, then you probably know that flies indicate an impending death might be near. There is this belief that they are harbingers of death and they often gather around dead bodies. However, there is no scientific evidence to support that flies represent death but it does make sense.

What do flies symbolize in the Bible?

Flies might symbolize death (putrefaction) or evil depending on the context your scripture references. It is also unclear whether these bad odors are associated with flies themselves or other causes like garbage or rotting flesh.

It may also imply that among the gifts God has given you, there may be a few that you are ignoring. Think about all the wonderful things that you have in your life – what aren’t you not fully utilizing? In essence, the gifts you aren’t using are rotting spiritually. Flies might be symbolically letting you know that your spirit is fading and it’s time to refocus on yourself again.

Here are a few scriptures that mention flies:

Exodus 8:21-31 – For if you do not let My people go, behold, I will send swarms of flies on you and on your servants and on your people and into your houses; and the houses of the Egyptians will be full of swarms of flies, and also the ground on which they dwell. But on that day I will set apart the land of Goshen, where My people are living, so that no swarms of flies will be there, in order that you may know that I, the Lord, am in the midst of the land. I will put a division between My people and your people. Tomorrow this sign will occur.

Psalm 105:31 – He spoke, and there came a swarm of flies and gnats in all their territory.

Jeremiah 46:20 – Egypt is a pretty heifer, but a horsefly is coming from the north—it is coming!

Who is Beelzebub?

Beelzebub, one of the seven Princes of Hell and the Prince of Demons, has been regarded both as an evil spirit and as another name for Satan or the devil himself. He is the Lord of Flies and in Arabic, he is the “patron god” of witches.

As a high-ranking demon who fell and joined Lucifer and is now known as one of his most loyal followers. He is one of the oldest angels and is part of Morningstar’s choir or circle. Many refer to him as one of the worst false gods in the Old Testament.

Are Flies A Sign My House Is Haunted?

Are the flies that you are seeing honed in on a particular person? Or are they signaling that there is a greater problem at hand? Is your house haunted and are the flies simply a result of that issue? Let’s look at a few different reasons why you can have a fly infestation.

Flies are drawn to death

It isn’t uncommon for rodents to die inside the walls of old apartments. I know this isn’t something you want to hear, but you might have a smell protruding from your house that you are unaware of and flies are picking up on the aroma.

Flies can detect ghosts

Paranormal investigators believe that flies act as an indicator for spirits – i.e. when you get them in your house it’s because there’s something spooky going on. This may be because they are somehow able to detect electromagnetic fields (EMFs) or other ‘unknown’ or ‘unseen’ phenomena which many spirits manifest. Flies instinctively are drawn to this energy.

One theory behind this is that flies can pick up tiny pockets of air pressure – indeed it has been reported that trained bees were used during the second world war to try and locate enemy soldiers hiding underground by their ability to sense micro-changes in barometric pressure. Perhaps flies have some similar ability?

Flies love dirty homes

You might not want to hear this one but flies like smelly, dirty, uncleaned environments. Anything from dust and dirt to spilled liquids will draw them in.

Ever seen maggots on the pavement after it’s rained? They also love moisture and dampness. So, if you have plants in the house or you keep bottled beverages in your pantry then flies will often congregate there.

One more HUGE note to mention, dog poop. If you let your dog use your backyard as a toilet, then you will absolutely have flies all over your house. That is one of the biggest amusement park rides for them to find.
