How To Play Light As A Feather Stiff As A Board

Light as a feather, stiff as a board. Light as a feather, stiff as a board. Have you heard this chant while at a party before? If so, you’ve taken part in a group game that is decades old and that continues to confuse the supernaturally curious.

But how does it all really work? Is this something that only children do? Why do all the movies continue to feature it as part of supernatural storylines? It can’t all be fun and games, can it?

Does Light As A Feather Really Work?

The main question that most people ask is whether or not Light as Feather really works? Is it a game? Or is it something else?

That is something you will have to decide for yourself. Grab some friends, quiet the room, light some candles, and try it out to see. Will you be able to levitate as you chant as one?

Is Light As A Feather Stiff As A Board Considered Witchcraft?

I’m actually happy that you are reading this question because there are different things that people do that could cross the line between light and dark. Witchcraft has different meanings to different people. Does it mean what you think? Is witchcraft evil? I suppose it depends on who you ask.

This game is something that children play at slumber parties. It has another nickname – pigs in a blanket. It’s something friends do together to laugh and maybe get a little scared.

Is it witchcraft? A levitation trick might be many things but a dark art symbol? I don’t think so.

Light As A Feather Game Details

Similar to the ouija board, this is a party game that many young people turn to when with their friends. You don’t need anything to become stiff as a board – just the people you are with.

While photos online will show blankets, candles, dark rooms, and incense – those items are truly just to set the mood. The truth of the matter is the only thing your group needs to do is to concentrate. And that is FREE.

Rules Of The Game

Lay the person you’re going to lift flat on the ground, with their arms crossed over their chest. In all honesty, you should have some pillows underneath them just in case they abruptly drop out of nowhere.

The last thing you need is to have your friend slam their head on the floor because no one was ready to catch them! Better to be safe than sorry while dabbling in the supernatural.

All lifters should surround the person lying down. It makes sense to have people around all edges of the body. So, place people near the feet, the mid-region/hips, the shoulders, and the head. It’s all about balancing weight.

Everyone puts two fingers from each hand under the person lying down. At this point, everyone should try to lift the person together at once as a test. This is to prove that the group cannot do it together.

Here’s where the light as a feather game really begins! The body won’t be able to lift unless the body is possessed by a spirit. Or so… that’s the thought process. So, if you are the host, be sure to let your guests know that’s what is about to go down.

At this point, there are two sayings you can repeat together while everyone has their eyes closed:

  • “Light as a feather, stiff as a board.”
  • “Light as a feather, strong as an ox.”

After repeating the saying of your choice a few times, begin to lift the friend that is on the floor. This time around, you should find that it is much easier to lift their body.

safety first

Is This Game Dangerous?

Supernaturally – no. This game is not dangerous. But please listen… if you drop your friend on their head, you can really hurt someone. You must be careful about that.

How Many Times Do You Have To Repeat The Chant?

There is no set amount of times you need to repeat the chant. Honestly, you have to keep saying it until you can successfully lift your friend off the ground.

How Many People Do I Need To Play This Game?

Because you need to equally distribute the weight of the body you are about to lift, it is suggested to have at least 4 people. But I think you should have at least 5 people lifting for better results. That way, someone can focus on the head.

Are you willing to give this game a chance? Have you done it before and were you able to successfully lift a friend? Let us know.
